Welcome. Optimised for IE4 and above.
This one should appeal to devotees of the Channel 4 programme countdown. You can now choose word length between 10 and 6 letters. I had to resort to writing a programme to extract them all as it was taking too long to find new ones manually. You may want to have a good dictionary with you as some of them, whilst perfectly valid, are pretty obscure. I have now included links to the Chambers Harrap® and Cambridge International® dictionaries. They are not guaranteed success but on the Chambers® site you can also check the official Scrabble® word list.
The object of the game is to guess the scrambled word before the counter reaches 30 seconds. Click on Play to start and Done when you think you've got the word right. Select a number from the drop down list to get words of different lengths.
If your browser accepts cookies you will start from the next word in the list when you play again. You can of course keep clicking play until you reach the question you were last at.
If you prefer something a little more light hearted try Simpsons Hang Man or Harry Potter Hang Man
All spellings are intended to be acceptable in UK english. I apologise for any purely US English words that may have crept in.

I don't normally include work in progress but here we go as a bonus the vowels and consonants game as per the TV show. I'm hoping to add a dictionary corner but so far I've been unable to come up with anything that works quickly enough over a dial up connection. There are literally hundreds of thousands of combinations from 9 letters most of them not words. For now you'll have to provide your own dictionary.
