| Chronological Profile :: Stan Greenwood was guitarist with Skeletal Family from 1981-1987, playing on all Skeletal Family recordings/releases and live appearances. Influences include the Pistols Steve Jones, Duane Eddie & Bert Weedon! Prior to Skeletal Family, played in various local bands, before joining/forming Keighley band The Elements (from the ashes of System) along with Trotwood (Bass Guitar), Spud (Ian Taylor, on keyboards/sax), Stuart Lilly (Drums) and Jane Tretton vocals who has since done recent vocal session work with Suede etc. In 1985 played bass in band formed by the (at the time) recently defunct Fiat Lux vocalist/guitarist Dave Cruickshank & with Alwoodley Jets guitarist Biff, played one local gig, plus numerous rehearsals before Stan returned to reformed Skeletal Family line-up. After final Skeletal Family break-up in 1987, formed Manchester based group Choice with Skeletal Family vocalist Katrina, playing two gigs, plus recording demo sessions for Chrysalis and DJM. Both gigs received optimistic reviews in local Manchester press. 1987 saw rehearsals with Sex Gang Children bassist Dave Roberts and Death Cult drummer Raymondo. This was short-lived, with Stan forming band with vocalist Dave Hicks (ex Revenge, Peter Hook of New Order fame), Leeds bassist Andy Fox and drummer Martin Henderson (Skeletal Family), recording various demos at Hook's Suite16 Studio in Rochdale. The band relocated to Leeds, teaming up with March Violets guitarist Tom to form yet another short-lived band called The Persuaders. Formed The Big Bang (www.bigbangkeighley.co.uk) in 1988, with Teenage and the Wildlife vocalist Dazz Robb & bassist Tronk. T he band had various drummers including Martin Henderson (Skeletal Family). Tronk left to be replaced by Steve Wilson (Shakes) on bass, with Martin leaving, to be replaced by current stickman BJ Walmsley. Continued with this line-up until October 1991 with Dazz being replaced by Gary Kaye. With the band now enlarged to a five piece with the addition of Jeff Rowlands on second guitar/vocals. The music at this point graduated from Rock 'n' Roll Punk to a more Indie style. Releasing two EP's "Smell You Budgie" and Freakshow, plus track "Were You Right" featured on Snakebite City 2 vinyl compilation album. Another project around this time was the Psycho Surgeons. Fronted by the Monster Raving Loony Party member for mental health Wild Willi Beckett. Complete with Johnny Lorrimer on bass and Rob Kershaw drums, the Surgeons, with their highly theatrical stage show, played several extensive tours in the early 1990's mainly in Czechoslovakia/Eastern Europe to a large and enthusiastic national following. The line-up at this time released one album "The Greatest Bits Volumes One and Two", playing alongside Loony Party Leader, the Late Screaming Lord Sutch on various British outings. With the Surgeons activity running parallel to the Big Bang, Gary Kaye was to leave in 1993. His replacement was ex Thundering Hearts vocalist Johnny Gow, with the music changing to a Gonzoid 70's Glam Rock style. With this line-up the band released two EP's entitled "Freakshow revisited" and "Packet Of Tabs Unopened" plus the legendary "Live Around The World" CD. With Johnny leaving in 2000, the band reinvented their sound, for a more hard edged sixties feel. With a rejuvenated line up consisting of:- Stan Greenwood - Guitar Dave Smith - Keyboards/Vocals Keiron Nuttall - Vocals/Guitar Steve Wilson - Bass Guitar Bryan (BJ) - Walmsley Drums The band released the cd "Wanna Try A Piece Buddy" in Spring 2002 and continue to perform/record around Northern England. |
